Cluj County is located in the Northwest half of the country, being in the contact area of three representative natural units: the Apuseni Mountains, Someşan Plateau and the Transylvanian Plain. From the point of view of the share of the area owned in the total national territory, Cluj county occupies the 12th place with 2.8%. It borders on the northeast with the counties Maramures and Bistrita-Nasaud, in the east with Mures county, in the south with Alba county, and in the west with the counties of Bihor and Salaj.
