BIO-INSPIRE

ENHANCING BIO-BASED INNOVATION AND PARTICIPATION IN UNDER-REPRESENTED REGIONS THROUGH CLUSTER MOBILIZATION AND COLLABORATIVE GOVERNANCE

Project acronym:

BIO-INSPIRE

Funding Program:

HORIZON / HORIZON-JU-CBE-2024-CSA-02

Implementation Duration:

01.05.2025 – 30.04.2028 (36 months)

Summary:

BIO-INSPIRE aims to connect and empower under-represented European regions in the transition toward a bio-based economy by mobilizing local innovation networks and unlocking the potential of regional clusters. The project builds bridges between people, regions, and ideas through a shared framework for collaboration and knowledge exchange, focused on sustainability and inclusive development.

BIO-INSPIRE promotes participatory and adaptive governance, where local actors – from businesses to researchers, from public authorities to citizens – work together toward a common goal: transforming local biological resources into innovative, circular, and sustainable solutions. Through training, mentoring, thematic communities, and international exchanges, the project contributes to building a stronger, more connected, and future-ready bioeconomy ecosystem.

Objective:

Specific objectives:

  • To develop a roadmap for collaborative, sustainable, and replicable governance at the European level.
  • To actively involve local actors from administration, industry, research, education, and civil society through co-creation and collaboration.
  • To create thematic Communities of Practice for knowledge exchange and bio-based solutions among regions.
  • To implement a knowledge transfer and training programme accessible via a dedicated digital platform.
  • To launch an open call (cascade funding) supporting cross-border collaboration and knowledge exchange projects.
  • To establish a European collaboration network among clusters, projects, and bioeconomy-related initiatives.

Activities:

  • Conducting in-depth analyses of bioeconomy ecosystems in partner regions to identify needs and local barriers.
  • Organizing workshops, co-creation sessions, and awareness-raising events at regional and international levels.
  • Developing and launching a digital platform for knowledge transfer, training, and collaboration among bioeconomy stakeholders.
  • Implementing the “Train-the-Trainer” programme and educational modules within the regional clusters.
  • Establishing and coordinating 8 thematic Communities of Practice (CoPs) to facilitate best practice exchange and innovative solutions.
  • Organizing an Open Call to fund 30 knowledge exchange and study visit sub-projects.
  • Developing a replication plan and policy briefs to support the scaling of the model to other EU regions.
  • Actively participating in European events and networks to foster collaboration and synergies in the bioeconomy field.
