Summary:

BloomEra aims to accelerate the adoption of innovative cropping systems across Europe, supporting farmers in adapting to climate change while improving sustainability, profitability, and resilience. The project focuses on practical agricultural solutions such as intercropping, agroforestry, crop rotations, conservation agriculture, and climate-smart farming practices that can help farmers reduce input dependency, improve soil health, enhance biodiversity, and create new market opportunities.

Through a multi-actor approach involving farmers, researchers, advisors, cooperatives, clusters, SMEs, and policy stakeholders, BloomEra transforms existing scientific and practical knowledge into accessible tools, guidelines, training materials, and digital services. The project builds on successful case studies from across Europe and promotes collaboration between agricultural actors to develop new value chains and innovative governance models that strengthen rural economies and support the transition toward more sustainable agricultural systems.

Objective:

Specific objectives:

  • To develop a European knowledge hub on innovative cropping systems that improve resilience to climate change and increase farm sustainability.
  • To establish Regional Farmers Groups and strengthen collaboration between farmers, advisors, industries, and researchers through a bottom-up approach.
  • To assess the sustainability, profitability, and market potential of innovative cropping systems and develop governance and business models supporting their implementation.
  • To strengthen cooperation with EIP-AGRI Operational Groups and promote the transfer of practical agricultural knowledge across Europe.
  • To develop digital tools, including a learning platform, mobile application, and AI-powered advisory services, ensuring long-term access to project results.
  • To communicate, disseminate, and exploit project results through training activities, demonstrations, policy recommendations, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Activities:

  • Creating a European knowledge hub that gathers and organizes information on innovative cropping systems, best practices, scientific results, and practical solutions.
  • Establishing and coordinating 12 Regional Farmers Groups across Europe to identify local needs and co-create solutions adapted to regional conditions.
  • Implementing case studies in different European agro-climatic regions focused on innovative cropping systems and climate resilience.
  • Analysing sustainability, profitability, governance mechanisms, and business opportunities associated with innovative agricultural practices.
  • Developing new value chains and cooperation models supporting the commercialization of innovative agricultural products and bio-based solutions.
  • Organizing training programmes, demonstration days, study visits, webinars, and cross-fertilisation meetings to facilitate knowledge exchange.
  • Producing factsheets, playbooks, practice abstracts, videos, podcasts, and other practical learning materials for farmers and advisors.
  • Developing a multilingual digital platform, Learning Management System (LMS), mobile application, and AI-powered chatbot “BloomAdvisor”.
  • Collaborating with EIP-AGRI Operational Groups and other agricultural innovation initiatives to maximize impact and knowledge transfer.
  • Developing policy recommendations and supporting the integration of project results into European agricultural knowledge and innovation systems.
